Calling All Runners
I am getting into the final stages of training for my marathon and have met about as much resistance as possible. Sick kids, up all night for several weeks, then recovering from sick kids, trying to wean, etc. I have found that my biggest challenge though is learning how to refuel. I have GU's, but boy do I hate them! Because of that I don't use them often enough and found myself depleted at the end of my last run. Does anyone have any good suggestions or tricks that they have found besides GU's? Alex suggests PayDays, but I haven't tried them because I haven't been able to find them at a store here yet. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Have you talked to Ben Peisch? He's a die-hard runner and has run multiple marathons, including THE marathon in Greece from Marathon to Athens last year.
I haven't and I will look into that! Thanks for the contact!
I use peanut M&Ms. I used to use the vanilla power bar gels, but they started making me sick. I LOVE using the peanut M&Ms. I tried them on a 10 miler at my parents' place -- I hadn't brought any gels with me and remembered reading in Runner's World that all those gus and gels are is sugar, anyway, and to pick your sugar of choice. I found their leftover Halloween m&ms and have since bought a Costco-sized box for my pantry -- I love them!
