Okay, so I'm only a month behind in getting this posted. That's not as bad as some of the other things! We had a Science Themed Birthday Party this year. It was a lot of fun for me and I think the kids all had a really good time. I actually overplanned a bit this year and used the party room in our building which ended up being a good idea. With a lot of boys to entertain (and one lone girl) we needed to keep things moving. As the kids arrived they made goggles and aprons. There were science dvds playing in the background. You know, volcanoes erupting, rockets blasting, etc. The volcanoes seemed to capture the most attention.

We then moved on to creating our own molecules. The goal was to build the tallest and most stable. I was surprised at how focused they all became and they definitely could have gone on longer, but I had to move on or we wouldn't have time for the experiments!

We made atomic slime which I got from a science store and basically just mix two solutions that create this glow-in-the-dark slime. We turned off the lights and watched the glow!

Then we moved on to making a wave in a test tube. Easy. Vegetable oil, water, food coloring, voila! But, the kids were amazed and impressed.

We then made some instant snow in petri dishes and then headed outside to blast our own rockets. Old film cannisters with vinegar and alka seltzer. Each kid had their own and got a chance to blast off! This was one of the funnest experiments and the kids surprisingly didn't get in the line of fire! They actually go pretty darn far.

Then we ended with snacks and a brain cake!

We actually were a little rushed at the end, so we opened presents after the crowd left. Alex and I told Christopher his party was his present from us, which he said he appreciated. I might just do that every year. They get so much from friends and family and it was nice to put the money into the party instead to make it extra special!
